Strategi Guru Dalam Mengembangkan Literasi Dasar Siswa Sekolah Dasar

Reading literacy is a basic competency that plays an important role in supporting the learning success of elementary school students. However, students' reading literacy skills are still diverse, characterized by differences in reading fluency, understanding of reading content, and interest in reading. This study aims to describe teachers' strategies in developing students' reading literacy and analyze the factors that affect the implementation of these strategies in SD Negeri 20021 Padangsidimpuan. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research. The research subjects consisted of school principals, grade II teachers, and students. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using an interactive model that included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The validity of the data is carried out through source triangulation and technique triangulation. The results of the study showed that teachers develop reading literacy through four main strategies, namely the habit of reading before learning, the use of picture storybooks as a learning medium, individual assistance for students who have reading difficulties, and continuous motivation. The implementation of this strategy is supported by the commitment of teachers, the support of the principal, and the use of reading materials available in schools. Meanwhile, students' uneven reading ability, low interest in reading for some students, limited variety of reading materials, and the unavailability of reading corners and bookshelves in the classroom are factors that hinder the implementation of literacy activities. The findings of the study confirm that the development of reading literacy does not only depend on the availability of facilities, but also on the ability of teachers to integrate various learning strategies that suit the characteristics and needs of students. Therefore, strengthening teacher competence and supporting the school environment is an important factor in improving the quality of reading literacy in elementary schools.
